Bustiers, waistbands and gothic corsets

The corset: from the Spanish court to the Gothic period

The forerunner of the bra, corsets were first used 2000 years before Christ, but it was not until the Renaissance that whalebones were used to shape the waist according to criteria that evolved with the times. In the form and materials that we know, it is in the 16th century, at the Spanish court, that it really makes its appearance. The corset will cross all the times and accompany the various clothing styles until the 20s to be replaced by the girdle. After the war, the marked waist became fashionable again with the pin-up girls, but the sexual revolution of the 1970s brought a setback. It was not until the 2000's that the corset was seen again in the collections of great fashion designers such as Jean-Paul Gaultier, but also in the gothic movement.
Bustiers and basques

The bustier, even if it is an undergarment designed to enhance the female breast, is not intended to reshape the waist. The garter belt is a bustier with the additional function of a garter belt.

The gothic, pin-up lolita or steampunk movements will appropriate the corset and the bustier to make them a garment in their own right. Leather, black velvet or satin and even vinyl, lace and ribbons, chains and metal buckles, the corset will be declined in a thousand ways. It is a romantic and sensual touch that enhances a personalised outfit. You will find on the Antre de Syria shop among a large choice the model to your taste.
