The emo gothic movement

The emo gothic movement

Emo fashion and accessories

Some people confuse the Emo and Gothic movements when in fact they are two different trends, although there are some similarities in the look. Emo is short for "emotional hardcore" and has its roots in the hardcore punk music of Washington, D.C. in the 1980s. As is often the case, a subculture is associated with a musical trend, and bands such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Jawbreaker, Jimmy Eat World, Rites of Spring and Embrace are fairly representative of what is known as emocore music. It is a music that has evolved enormously over the last thirty years.

The emo look is similar to that of the chic geeks: tight trousers, hoodies, a t-shirt with the image of your favourite band, a pair of skateboard or city shoes and a few accessories such as a bracelet with studs and a lip or nose piercing. The emo hairstyle is also typical, with locks pulled back to the front or side and secured with gel.
